Its, let’s say, unusual appearance, is owed to the high concentration of various minerals such as magnesium sulfate, calcium, sodium sulfate, silver and titanium. In the summer, most of the water evaporates from the lake and it gets that unusual spotted look from the accumulated mineral salts, and from those minerals, depends the color of the lake, which can be yellow, green and white.
A hundred years ago, from this lake, the minerals were extracted for production of ammunition. Then, it was possible to extract even a ton of salt a day.
Natives considered the lake a sacred place, and there’s obviously something there because it has a healing potential, something that the Natives took advantage of. According to the legend, when two warring tribes agreed to truce, they put their wounded people in the Spotted Lake believing that it will cure them.
The Spotted Lake recently was going to become a spa center, but the heirs of the Natives managed to persuade the owners not to do that, but sell the lake to them. Thus they saved it from commercialization.
Today, the access to the lake is denied, it is not allowed to get near it. However, if you’re ever in Canada, do not despair, because the view of the lake from the road remains fantastic.
